Richard B. “Dick” Schlosser, age 82, of 1623 Montana Avenue; Gladstone, died Tuesday, September 26th, 2006 at home following a 6 year struggle with multiple myeloma (cancer of the bone marrow).
Dick was born November 30th, 1923 in the Birch Run area in Genesee County, MI, the son of Jay E. and Alena (Wymer) Schlosser and was raised in Mt Morris, MI. Following his graduation from Mt Morris High School, he entered military service with the Army Air-Corps and was later transferred to the Army Infantry in the Pacific Theater stationed in the Philippines. Upon his honorable discharge, Dick returned to Michigan and attended Lawrence University in Detroit. Dick married the former Betty J. Jackson on December 27th, 1947 in Flint.
After working as a carpenter/ building contractor, he began his long career as a building inspector in Michigan. Dick was employed in that capacity for Commerce Township and for the cities of Birmingham, Berkley, and Troy. In 1976, he and his wife relocated to Gladstone, MI where he was employed for the State of Michigan as the building inspector for the entire Upper Peninsula until his retirement in 1994.
Dick Schlosser was a member of the American Legion Walter W. Cole Post #301 of Rapid River and the State Employees Retirees Association. He also attended the First Presbyterian Church of Escanaba. Although he enjoyed carpentry and fine wood-working as past-times and hobbies, his family was always the focal point of his life and that took precedence over any matters.

1 Daughter- Lois Taylor of Troy, MI
2 Sisters- Gretchen Bennett of Wagoner, Oklahoma; Unafern (Harold) Williams of Claremont, FL
11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Maynard and Bernard Schlosser; and by 2 sisters, Geraldine Adams and Zelda Titus.
The family of Richard B. “Dick” Schlosser will receive friends on Thursday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 3:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Military Rites will be conducted at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home by the Rapid River American Legion Walter W. Cole Post #301. Services celebrating Dick’s life will follow on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Scott White of the First Presbyterian Church of Escanaba officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint following additional services in Waterford, Michigan.
