John “Kenny” Kenneth “Jack-Pine” Johnson, age 94, of 9581 County 513 Road; Rapid River died Sunday October 29th,2006 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba where he was a patient for the previous 3 years.
Kenny was born October 30th, 1911 in Gladstone, the son of John E. and Augusta (Kinnie) Johnson, raised in Gladstone, and was a graduate of the Gladstone High School.
After entering the U.S. Army in 1942 during World War II, he served in the European Theater and was in combat in the “Battle of the Bulge”. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
In his early working years, Kenny was employed for “Hanson Grocery” and “Olson Clothing” in Gladstone and later was self-employed as a small grocery and gas station owner in Rapid River area on Co. Rd 513. In addition, he was a care-taker for many cottages in the area for many years.
Kenny married the former Lima DeVet Larson on June 3rd, 1971 and she preceded him in death February 1st, 2003 in Marinette, WI. He lived in Marinette for a number of years but always remained a faithful resident of the Rapid River area community as well.
Kenny was active in Free Masonry, and was a member of the Gladstone Masonic Lodge #396 F&AM, Scottish Rite, Valley of Marquette, Ahmed Shrine, Delta Shrine Club, Green Bay Shrine Club, and the Beja Temple of Green Bay, WI.
J. Kenneth Johnson survivors include:
A step-son , Richard (Corine) Larson of Pound , WI and their children, and grandchildren
And by special friends who he considered family, James and Alice Johnson of Rapid River and their children, Julie, Patti, Mary Fay, and Jim.
Upon Kenny Johnson’s request, all services will be private. Burial will be in the New Garden Cemetery next to his wife, Lima. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Johnson family.
