Rose Julia Breitenbach, age 93, of 116 South 22nd Street, passed away Monday, November 27, 2006 at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born October 28, 1913 in Utica, Mississippi to Isiah and Alma (Ross) Mobley and graduated from Utica High School. She later received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Alabama and a second Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Rose went on to teach English for eight years in Mississippi Schools and twenty-one years in Michigan schools, with the last eighteen years at the Escanaba Area Public High School. In addition to teaching English, Rose served as an instructor of aircraft mechanics on B-24’s. She also performed pre-flight checks.
It was also during World War II that she met her future husband, Ted, at a USO dance in Pascagoula, Mississippi while Ted was serving in the Army Air Force, stationed at Keesler Field in Biloxi, Mississippi. Ted and Rose were united in marriage on July 5, 1943 in Utica, Mississippi.
Rose was an avid reader and bridge player and had the unique experience of having her niece, Mary Ann Mobley, as Miss America of 1959.

1 Sister- Alice “Brownie” Moss of Jackson, Mississippi
3 Sister-in-laws- Ruth, Harriet, and Mable

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 Brothers and 2 Sisters.
The Breitenbach Family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Thursday, November 30 at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Memorial Services will be at 6:00 PM on Thursday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Rayford Ray officiating. Her remains will be laid to rest in Utica Cemetery in Utica, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Rose’s honor to the Salvation Army of Escanaba, MI.
