Jeanne Nelson

Died November 15, 2006


Jeanne L. Nelson, age 84, of Escanaba passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

Jeanne was born April 19, 1922 in Baraga, MI to William and Mathilda Fink. She attended school and was a graduate of Munising High School She was named “Fish Queen” at the Munising Trout Festival and the nickname “Queen Jeanne” stuck with her the rest of her life. Following high school Jeanne attended nursing school at Alma College. She eventually moved to Gladstone and resided in the Gladstone/Escanaba area for over 55 years. She was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gladstone and played the organ at the church for many years. Jeanne worked as a legal secretary for the Michigan Attorney General Don Goulais at the state office building in Escanaba for 25 years. She enjoyed meeting friends at the Downtowner Restaurant in Escanaba everyday before work and driving around in her 1977 Buick Regal. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid cribbage player. She was most proud of her son’s 32 year career in law enforcement.

Survivors include:

1 Son: Ret. Deputy Chief of Police- Royal Oak, MI Jim (Sandy) Niks of Rochester Hills, MI

1 Brother: Allen Fink of Green Bay, MI

1 Sister-In-Law: Dutchie Fink of Hastings Nebraska

Numerous Nieces and Nephews
 
She was preceded in death by: Husband: Andrew Nelson

Her parents, 2 Brothers-Wilbur and Irving Fink, 1 Sister-Elaine Wesolowski,  and a Sister-in-Law: Bunkie Fink

Funeral services for Jeanne will be Sunday, November 19, 2006 at 4:00 PM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba with Pastor Phil Paustian, St. Martin Evangelical Lutheran Church-Rapid River, officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 at the funeral home. Burial will be Monday, November 20 at 10:00 AM at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. Memorial contributions in Jeanne’s name may be made to the Bishop Noa Home.

The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Nelson family with arrangements.
