Marianne Utt age 85 of Valley City, North Dakota died Sunday evening November 19, 2006 at The Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City with Rev. Michael Schommer celebrant.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with a Prayer Service beginning at 8:00 p.m. at the Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home. A second Mass will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Escanaba following a visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba.

Marianne Utt was born August 19, 1921 at Escanaba, Michigan the daughter of John and Laura (Quinn) McCarthy. She grew up there and graduated from St. Joseph High School.  She married Lyle Utt on Feb. 11, 1942 at Escanaba.  Following the war the couple made their home at Escanaba for a time and then moved to Valley City, ND in 1951.  Mr. Utt died July 31, 1963 and Marianne took a job as the bookkeeper for Straus Clothing in Valley City. Following her retirement she continued to make her home at Valley City and was active at St. Catherine’s Church and her circle.  She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and playing bingo.  She became a resident at the Sheyenne Care Center in July of this year.

Survivors include her five children: Michael (Karol) Utt, Casselton, ND, Robert (Karen) Utt, St. Charles, MO, Laura (Harvey) Beem, Escanaba, Michigan, Lu Ann (Brad) Wenaas, Valley City, ND, and Linda (Travis) Bultema, Lisbon, ND; 2 brothers, William (Judy) McCarthy, Elkton, MD and Edward (Patricia) McCarthy, Escanaba, MI; a sister, LaVerne Douck, Escanaba, MI; 16 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, John McCarthy, and a sister, Laura Koch.
