Ted was born November 17, 1914, in Escanaba, the son of William and Caroline (Mattson) Breitenbach.  He was raised in Escanaba and was a graduate of the Escanaba Public High School.  Following high school, Ted enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. and was stationed at Keesler Field in Biloxi, Mississippi during the WWII era.  During Ted’s enlistment, he met his future wife, the former Rose Mobley, at the USO dance in Pascagoula, Mississippi and the couple exchanged wedding vows on July 5, 1943.  During his enlistment, Ted was in charge of the mess tent serving 5,000 meals three times per day.  Ted was honorably discharged from the United States Army Air Corp. in 1945 at the rank of Master Sergeant.

Ted and Rose enjoyed 63 years of marriage before Rose’s death on November 27, 2006.  Ted was a lifelong resident of Escanaba.  He is remembered for his extensive involvement in the local community, being the creator of the Stone House Restaurant, a member of the SCORE entrepreneurial support group, member of the Golden K (Kiwanis) and for holding a seat on the Council for the Aged for over 10 years.  In addition, for many years Ted authored a column in the Daily Press Newspaper for senior citizens and he also belonged to a group of local business men who traveled to the Marquette Penitentiary to counsel and help rehabilitate inmates to stay away from criminal activity and to stabilize their life in the community.  Ted was a strong family man, good friend and loved to spend time with his family.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
