Kenneth J. DeMars, age 89, of the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba (formerly of 5718 West Main Street, Wells) died Tuesday evening January 23, 2007 at the Christian Park Health Care Center where he was a resident.
Kenneth was born April 25, 1917 in Escanaba the son of Dona and Anna (Christian) DeMars. Ken was raised in Escanaba where he graduated from the St. Joseph High School. Ken was united in marriage to the former Bernice Mileski on April 27, 1939 in Escanaba and they made their residence in Wells where they raised their 4 daughters. Ken was a conductor for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and he retired in 1976.
Ken was a faithful member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wells and the Gladstone Golf Club. He loved all sports, but especially enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. Ken’s hobbies included golfing and bowling and he enjoyed attending church. Family and friends will remember him for his likeable sense of humor and his witty teasing.

4 daughters: Sharon DeMars of Glenview, IL; Judy (Pete) Boyce of Tucson, AZ; Mary (Dennis) Bratonia of Gladstone; Patty (Charlie) Creten of Gladstone
1 sister: Kathleen (Phil) Orlando of Wausaukee, WI
6 grandchildren: Greg (fiancé, Cherie Jenkins) Creten, Carrie Creten, Peter Boyce, Jayne (Tom) Thacker, Amy (Paul) Okray and Mark (Jen) Bratonia.
2 great grandchildren: Cameron and Rhiannon.
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Bernice on June 18, 1998 and his sister Leda.
Ken’s family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial Services celebrating the life of Kenneth J. DeMars will follow at 12:00 noon at the St. Anthony Church in Wells with Rev. Fr. Rick Courier officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Anthony Church, envelopes will be available at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Homes or at St. Anthony Church.
