Marguerite A. LaChapelle, age 71, of 3842 St. Nicholas 31st Road, died Wednesday January 10, 2007 at her home in Rock surrounded by her family.

Marguerite was born May 30, 1935, in Escanaba, the daughter of Hugo and Hazel (Cole) Johnson. She was raised in Kipling and was a graduate of the Gladstone Senior High School. Following school, Marguerite relocated to Midland, MI, spending a couple years in Midland before returning to Gladstone. On November 9, 1957, the former Marguerite Johnson exchanged wedding vows with Richard J. LaChapelle at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Perkins. Together the couple made their home and raised their family, working together on their dairy farm, on the St. Nicholas road in Rock. In addition, Marguerite was employed for over 30 years as a seamstress at the Nu Way Cleaners in Escanaba, retiring December 31, 2005. Marguerite was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins. She was a member of the Perkins American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #540 and she spent much of her time attending sporting events and occasions involving her loving grandchildren.

Survivors include:

1 Son: Keith (Wendy) LaChapelle of Rock, MI

1 Daughter: Tammy Pearson of Escanaba, MI

5 Grandchildren: Kevin, Brian, Alex, Elizabeth and Kaitlyn

1 Step Grandson: Jason

2 Step Great Grandchildren: Taylor and Elliot

Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Hugo and Hazel and her husband, Richard, Marguerite was preceded in death by:

1 Son: Dale LaChapelle

2 Brothers: Newton and Doug Johnson

Family will receive friends on Monday from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Ladies Auxiliary rites will be conducted at 4:45PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home, by the Perkins American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #540. Funeral services celebrating the life of Marguerite A. LaChapelle will follow visitation, at 6:00PM, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall. Committal rites will be conducted, in the spring time, at the St. Nicholas Cemetery. The Skradski Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the LaChapelle family with arrangements.
