Herbert Reese

Herbert “Herb” R. Reese, age 68, of 10125 Bay Shore Drive; Rapid River (Masonville Twp.) died Saturday, January 20th, 2007 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba following a lengthy illness with cancer.

Herb was born the son of William and Edith (Hill) Reese and was raised in the Brampton and Gladstone areas. He later was a member of the U.S. Army for 3 years, stationed in Illinois.

On September 1st, 1956 he married the former Marilyn R. Reinholdson in Escanaba and they resided in Rockford, Ill. for 11years and returned to Delta County in 1968, settling in Stonington. They moved to the Masonville area in 1979 where they have lived since.

In his early working years, Herb was employed in furniture manufacturing in Illinois and later for Eaton Corp. in Gladstone for 20 years until its closure. He subsequently was employed for Landon Lumber in Wells until his retirement at age 62.

Herb Reese was a member of the Rapid River American Legion Walter W. Cole Post #301 for many years and he was of the Lutheran faith. Fishing, hunting, and playing cards were among his past-time and he was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, Herb’s survivors include:

2 Sons- Kevin (Michelle) Reese of Rock; Keith (Adrienne) Reese of Cornell

3 Grandchildren- Britney, John, and Cole

and by nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Robert, John, and William Reese, and by 2 sisters; Ruth Dubrock and Irma Markie.

The family of Herbert R. Reese will receive friends on Friday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with Military Rites being conducted at 5:15 p.m. by the Rapid River American Legion. Services celebrating his life will follow on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Gauger of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Rapid River officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the Calvary Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in the Rapid River Cemetery. The Skradski- Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Reese family.
