Verna Irma Verhamme, age 92, of 510 First Avenue South, Escanaba, MI died Monday morning January 22, 2007 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where she had been a patient. Verna was born December 23, 1914 in Peshtigo, WI the daughter of Emil and Pearl (Woodard) Rothschild. She moved with her family at the age of 5 to Gladstone where she attended the Gladstone Public Schools.

Verna was united in marriage to Paul F. Verhamme and they made their residence in Gladstone where they raised their family. Together they owned and operated the Arcadia Inn in Gladstone for over 25 years. Verna was a member of the All Saints Church in Gladstone and the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71 Auxiliary. Verna resided in Gladstone until 1992 when she moved to Harbor Towers in Escanaba.

3 daughters: Connie Verhamme of Milwaukee, WI; Susan (Thomas) Meinz of Green Bay, WI; Alice (Mark) Sabuco-Lemerand of Escanaba

2 sisters: Alice Creten of Escanaba and Dorothy; McIntyre of Gladstone

4 grandchildren: Seth, Erin, Sara and Jenni

4 great grandchildren: Jari, Niko, Lauren and Audrey

Numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Paul on April 3, 1976, 2 brothers, Jack and Melvin Rothschild, 4 sisters, Helen Holm, Pearl Curtis, Betty Donaldson and Clara Rothschild.

Mass of Christian Burial Services celebrating the life of Verna I. Verhamme will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at the All Saints Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. A reception of family and friends with a luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Arthritis Foundation, envelopes will be available at the Skradski Funeral
Home or at the All Saints Church.
