Lyme "Lee" Broemer

Died February 24, 2007


Lyme “Lee” Broemer, age 84, of Escanaba, formerly of Manistique and White Pine passed away Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility where she had been a resident.
 
Mrs. Lee Broemer was born Lyme Sophie Huhta in Greenland, Michigan on November 29, 1922. She was the youngest of eight children born to Finnish parents, Sophie and Victor Huhta who had immigrated from Jalasjarvi, Finland. She attended Greenland public schools and graduated from Mass City High School in 1939. She worked in Detroit during World War II and afterwards was married to Clarence “Bud” Arthur Broemer on December 28, 1945. They both worked as mail carriers in the Ontonagon area until Clarence became Post Master at the White Pine Post Office in 1953. They moved to White Pine and lived there until 1978 when they moved to Manistique to take up a post at the Manistique Post Office. Lee was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manistique and enjoyed the quilting group there. She was a Past President of the Eagles Women’s Club in Manistique and a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Order of the Moose. Lee enjoyed socializing with her friends and was well-known in the local area as a Karaoke singer who sang “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” with much feeling.
 
Lee is survived by:

2 Daughters: Marlene Broemer of Helsinki, Finland; Suzanne Wolkiewicz of Escanaba, MI

2 Grandchildren: Jessi Chouinard of Escanaba, MI; Clint Broemer of Green Bay, WI

3 Great Grandchildren: Zoie and Tyler Chouinard; Alysa Broemer.

Nieces: Lorraine Fritz of St. Paul Park, MN; Gloria Arola of Santa Cruz, CA; Dolores Monday of Florida; Marilyn Moran

Nephews: Dale Huhti of Watertown, WI; Russell Huhti of Greenland, MI

Numerous cousins in Finland

Her closest cousin: Pentti Lund of Florida and Thunder Bay, Ontario
 
The Broemer family will receive friends on Saturday, March 10, from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home, 118 S. 12th Street, Escanaba. Funeral services for Lee will be at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Dean Peterson will officiate. A luncheon will follow services at the home of Dianne Hanson. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Greenland in the spring.
