Clarence Winchester

Clarence H. “Bud” Winchester, age 88, of 5774 Maple 18.05 Ave, Gladstone, MI died Thursday morning February 22, 2007 at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba where he was a resident for the past 3 years. Clarence was born April 5, 1918 in Escanaba the son of Harry and Rose (Brown) Winchester and he was raised in Escanaba where he attended the Escanaba Public Schools.

Clarence was united in marriage to the former Jennie Leadman on January 19, 1941 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. They were lifelong residents of Escanaba where they raised their 3 children. Bud was a car salesman for most of his working career, selling automobiles for Caswell Auto Sales and later for Bero Motors, retiring in 1979. Bud was a member of the Red Buck Archery Club in Escanaba and his hobbies included hunting, fishing, metal detecting and reading about automobiles. He loved making bird houses, windmills and making crafts. Bud also enjoyed restoring Model A Fords and old bicycles. He also treasured listening to country and western music and spending time on his John Deere Lawnmower.

In addition to his wife Jennie, survivors include:

1 Son: Dale (Sherry) Winchester of Gladstone

1 Daughter: Vicki (Bill) Lenca of Menominee

1 Brother: Earl “Babe” (Mary) Winchester of Gladstone

5 Grandchildren: Jeffrey (Amy) Lenca of Menominee; Chad (Kristen) Lenca of Owings Mills, Maryland; Brian (Melissa) Winchester of Green Bay, WI; Brad Winchester of Gladstone, MI; Jennifer McGlothen of Apopka, FL

5 Great Grandchildren: Michael, Stephanie, Brandon, Katherine and Ella

Numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Patty Lou Machiliak in 2002 and 1
brother Harold “Winkie” Winchester. Bud’s family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Clarence H. Winchester will follow at 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Dean A. Peterson officiating.

A luncheon will follow across the street at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Burial will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
