Genevieve Kennedy

Genevieve A. Kennedy, age 96, of the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba (Formerly of Northwoods Assisted Living Center and 1314 Michigan Avenue, Gladstone, died Wednesday morning March 14, 2007 at the Bishop Noa Home.

Genevieve was born February 22, 1911 in Gladstone the daughter of Louis and Nathalie (Brassick) Schram and she was a lifelong resident of Gladstone.

Genevieve was united in marriage to George A. Kennedy on April 29, 1939 at All Saints Church in Gladstone.  Together they owned and operated Gen & Georges Grocery Store in Gladstone, later known as Pat & Jims.  Genevieve operated for many years her own catering business which she operated out of her home and she also worked at the Gladstone Golf Club and did the cooking for the Escanaba Country Club.  Gen was a longtime member of All Saints Church in Gladstone and was a current member of St. Anthony’s Church in Wells.  She was also a member of the Gladstone Senior Center and her hobbies included playing cards and going to the casino.

Survivors include:

1 daughter: Kay (Dick) Thompson of Gladstone

5 Grandchildren: Joe (Hope) Thompson of Gladstone; Barry (Kathy) Thompson of Midland, MI; Ron (Courtney) Thompson of Midland, MI; Amy (Roger) Aho of Quinnesec, MI; Cheri Thompson (fiance, Dave Smith) of Lansing, MI

5 Great Grandchildren: Carmen, Kyle, Natalie, Jillian and Grace Thompson

Sister-in-law: Theresa Firkus of Manitowac, WI

Numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by:

Husband: George on October 15, 1998

6 Brothers: Frank, Fred, Sylvester, Greg, Paul and James Schram

4 Sisters: Rose Goodreau, Germaine Reese, Blanch Kennedy and Mary Robbins

Genevieve’s family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Mass of Christian Burial Services will follow at 12:00 noon at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wells with Rev. Fr. Rick Courier officiating.  Luncheon will follow services in the church parish hall.  Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
