Allen Kidd

Allen “Al” Kidd, age 83, of 834 South 19th Street, Escanaba passed away Monday afternoon, March 19, 2007 at the Christian Park Center surrounded by his loving family.

Allen was born September 23, 1923 in Escanaba, the son of John and Mayme (Dufour) Kidd. He was a lifelong resident of Escanaba, graduating from Escanaba High School. He was later employed by Northern Motor Rebuilders, Harnischfeger Corporation and the Escanaba Post Office. Allen was an active member of both St. Anthony of Padua and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was united in marriage to Mary Kutches on September 28, 1967 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Allen served his country proudly as a member of Company F 17th Infantry in the United States Army during World War II. He was the recipient of the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, the combat infantryman’s badge and as a result of being injured during battle, the Purple Heart Ribbon. Allen later became a life member of the Order of the Purple Heart in Escanaba. He was an avid sports fan, loved the Green Bay Packers and was a member of the Escanaba Country Club.

2 Grandsons: Mike Potvin of Valrico, Florida; David Potvin of Soo Hill, MI

3 Granddaughters: Wendy (Mike) Moore of Fredericksburg, Virginia; Lori (Rob) Edmundson of Waukesha, WI; Lisa (Russ) Cowart of Willis, Texas

4 Great Grandchildren: Brittany Potvin of Valrico, Florida: MaKenzie Symm and Zachary Moore of Fredericksburg, VA; Jacob Edmundson of Waukesha, WI

His brother: Lawrence (Mary Jean) Kidd of Ford River, MI

2 Sisters: Ulaine Schram of Clawson, MI; Donna Marenger of Perkins, MI

An Aunt: Leona Dufour

Numerous nieces and nephews

Sister-in-laws: Judde (Matt) Snyder; Ruby (Ron) Carroll; Gertrude Kutches; Carol Kutches
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers — Emerson and John Kidd — and two sisters —  Nellie Mae and Patty Kidd.
 
Allen’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 21 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military Honors will be presented at 5:00 at the funeral home by the Delta County Veterans Council in conjunction with the Order of the Purple Heart. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Father Rick Courier officiating. Luncheon will immediately follow services in the parish hall. Allen will be laid to rest in the spring at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Escanaba.
