Elizabeth J. “Betty” Nelson, age 82, of 301 Delta Avenue, Gladstone died Wednesday morning March 14, 2007 at home surrounded by her loving family. 

Elizabeth was born October 8, 1924 in Gladstone the daughter of Ernest and Laura (Lucier) Gobert and she was a lifelong resident of Gladstone.  Betty was united in marriage to Harold “Hilly” Nelson in 1943 and he preceded her in death in 2003 after 60 years of marriage.

Betty retired from Besse Forrest Corporation in Gladstone and she attended All Saints Church in Gladstone.  Her hobbies included spending time at their camp, feeding the birds, knitting, crocheting, and reading.  She loved attending her grandchildren’s school activities and sporting events.

Survivors include:

3 daughters: Candy (Bob) Nicholas of Greer, SC; Laurie Young of Gladstone; Debbie (Brian) Holm of Gladstone

6 Grandsons: Todd Nicholas of Levant, ME; Aaron (Casey) Young of Gladstone; Casey Young, Brett Young, Ryan Holm, and Matt Holm all of Gladstone

1 Granddaughter: Amy Nicholas of Pinson, AL

3 Great Grandchildren: Emily Fields and Jake Steidinger of Pinson, AL; Nathan Young of Gladstone

2 sister-in-laws, Kay Gobert and Marilyn Anderson both of Gladstone

2 brother-in-laws Ellsworth McFarland of Minnesota, and Gordon(Pat) Nelson of Gladstone

Numerous nieces and nephews

In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Nelson, sisters: Louise Stukenberg, Emaline Carufel and Alice McFarland: Brothers: Edmund, Walter, Francis and William Gobert, son-in-law, Robert (Bob) Young, and her mother/father-in-law Frank and Grace Nelson.

Betty’s family would like to thank Mary Pat Johnson and Sr. Dyonne and the staff of Marquette General Home Health and Hospice for their excellent care and also the staff of the Fresenius Kidney Center in Escanaba.

Betty’s family will receive friends on Saturday from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Funeral services celebrating the life of Elizabeth J. Nelson will follow at 4:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow of the All Saints Church officiating.  Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
