Peter W. Klug, age 61, of 8643 H. Road, died Easter Sunday April 8, 2007, at his home in Cornell of an apparent heart attack.
Peter was born October 6, 1945, in Kidderminster Worcestershire, England, the son of Walter and Hazel (Priest) Klug. He was raised in Escanaba and attended the St. Joseph Catholic School before completing high school at the Escanaba Senior High. Following high school, Peter enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. completing three tours during the Vietnam conflict and earning medals of accommodation which included, The Purple Heart, The Vietnamese Service Medal with two stars, The National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation and two separate Good Conduct Medals. In addition, Peter received The Navy Achievement Medal for duties displayed in an exemplary manner authorizing him (Sergeant Peter W. Klug) to wear the Combat “V”. Following his active duty honorable discharge, Peter transferred to the Marine Corp. Reserve and resided in Florida for two years before relocating back to the Delta County area where he worked for various employers before acquiring a position as a welder and eventually retiring from the Harnischfeger Corporation. Peter was a member of various organizations throughout the community, including, Escanaba AmVets, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Life Member of the DAV and the Escanaba Lions Club. Peter enjoyed trapping and was a member of the U.P. Trappers Association. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his mother Hazel and his daughter Megan.

1 Brother: Melvin (Dee) Klug of Cheyenne, WY
2 Sisters: Janet Bourdeau of Escanaba, MI; Cheryl Couillard of Green Bay, WI
Aunt: Marie Witterbrodt of Bay City, MI
Pete was known as “Uncle Pete” to many nieces and nephews which include additional extended family members from England, Joy, Bobbie (Roger), Rachel (Martyn) and children. Also listed among the surviving family are Pete’s companions, Whiskers, Cuddles and Red.
Peter was preceded in death by his father Walter in October of 2002.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2:00PM to 6:00PM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military rites, honoring Peter’s service to his country, will be conducted, at 5:45PM, at the funeral home, by the Delta County Veteran’s Council. Funeral services celebrating the life of Peter W. Klug will follow military rites, at 6:00PM, with Rev. Fr. Eric Olson of the St. Joseph St. Patrick Church officiating. Luncheon will follow at the St. Joseph St. Patrick Parish Hall. Committal will be in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Escanaba.
