Gilbert Lee “Gil” Norman, age 62, of 16489 Timber Lane; Rock died Sunday afternoon, April 8th, 2007 at home with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer.

Gil was born May 7th, 1944 in Escanaba, the son of John and Evelyn (Wilson) Norman, attended the Rock School System, and graduated from the Rock High School. Subsequently, Gil served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was later honorably discharged in 1967. Gil married the former Stella B. Rock October 9th, 1965 in Gwinn and she survives.

He was employed at the K I Sawyer Air Force Base in Gwinn in housing maintenance, snow removal, and later for the waste water treatment plant at the air-base. In addition to his general love of the outdoors, Gil enjoyed hunting, fly-fishing, watching deer, and spending time at camp with family and friends. Wood-working was also an avid hobby of his.

2 Daughters- Denise (Kevin) Peterson of Big Lake, MN; Rebecca (Joseph Hewitt) Crouse of Little Lake, MI

2 Brothers- Marvin Norman of Gladstone; Vernor “Bud” (Diana) Norman of Rock

1 Sister- Verna (Gordon) Chesire of Rock

Grandchildren, Justin and Sara Peterson, and Levi and Nicole Crouse and nieces and nephews.

His parents, John and Evelyn Norman, preceded him in death.

A private service for family will be held at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with his brother, “Bud” Norman, officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Cemetery. In Gil’s remembrance, the Norman family respectfully requests memorials be directed to the Delta County Cancer Alliance. Envelopes may be obtained at the Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County who are assisting the family.
