Robert Coplan, age 91, died peacefully Friday afternoon May 4, 2007 at his home in Escanaba surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born November 9, 1915, in Escanaba, the son of Morris and Bessie Anne (Greenspan) Coplan.  He was raised in Escanaba and attended and graduated from the Escanaba Senior High School in 1933.  During WWII, Robert served at the rank of First Sergeant of operations with the ordinance department in the Asiatic-Pacific with the United States 10th Army Air Corps.  Following his honorable discharge, Robert joined his brothers, working in the family business for B.A. Coplan Iron and Metal.  Robert owned and operated B.A. Coplan Iron and Metal until his retirement in September of 1998.  Robert was a long time member of the Escanaba VFW and the Escanaba Elks.  He loved spending time with his family and his home was the center of many gatherings over the years.  He will be deeply missed by family and friends. 

Survivors include many loving nieces, nephews and cousins

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Bessie Anne:

6 Brothers:  Benjamin, George, Edward, William, Joseph and Herman “Hymie”

4 Sisters:  Pearl, Evelyn, Marion and Zelda “Bobbie”

Private funeral services honoring the life of Robert Coplan will be conducted on Monday at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba.  Committal rites will follow funeral services at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.  The Coplan family respectfully requests that memorials in Robert’s name be directed to OSF Hospice and Delta Area Animal Society.  Envelopes will be available at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home.  The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are in care of arrangements.
