Orson Livermore

Orson “Doc” Livermore, age 87, of 1709 Michigan Avenue, died Sunday evening May 6, 2007 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba surrounded by his loving family on his 87th birthday where he was a resident for the past two months.

Orson was born May 6, 1920 in Munising the son of Orson and Nellie (Wilbur) Livermore Sr.  He was raised in Munising before serving his country in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne from 1939-1945.  Orson received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.  Upon his honorable discharge in 1945 he returned to the states and married the former Doreen Alworden on August 19, 1946 and they made their home in Gladstone where they raised their three sons.  Doc was an Engineer for the Soo Line Railroad from 1946 until his retirement in 1981.

Doc was an avid outdoorsman and he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He treasured working and spending time in his garage at home.  He also enjoyed reading and oil painting.  Doc was always up for any kind of card games as long as money was involved and he also looked forward to going to the casino to play card games. His family and friends will miss his great sense of humor and quick wit. 

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Doreen,

3 sons: Dennis (Mary) Livermore of Marinette, WI; David (Teresa) Livermore of Spokane, WA; Dwayne (Lori) Livermore of Las Vegas, NV

2 brothers: Roger (Ann) Livermore of Livingston, Montana; Arnold (Florence) Livermore of South Bend, IN

1 sister: Barbara Lewis of Estacado,OR

6 grandchildren: Krista, Trisha, Paula, Brian, Nikki, and Betty.

5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jenny Livermore, 6 brothers, Floyd, Norman, Harold, Robert, Alfred and Ken Livermore, 1 sister, Lucille Livermore.

Orson’s family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3:00 P.M. to 4:45 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Military rites conducted by the Gladstone American Legion Post #71 will follow at 4:45 P.M.  Funeral services celebrating the life of Orson “Doc” Livermore will be conducted at 5:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow of the All Saints Church in Gladstone and David Livermore of Spokane, WA officiating.  Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Church Parish Hall.   Burial will take place following the luncheon at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the All Saints Church Elevator Fund, envelopes will be available at the Skradski Family Funeral Homes.
