John “J.P.” Douglas Pelon, age 63, of 1115 Minnesota Avenue, Gladstone, died Thursday evening May 31, 2007 at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba following a lengthy illness.
John was born October 24, 1943 in Manistique the son of Wilford and Dorothy (Roberts) Pelon Sr. He was raised in Manistique and was a 1961 graduate of the Manistique High School. Following graduation J.P. worked at the Manistique Paper Mill for 8 years before moving to Gladstone. He retired from the Mead Paper Company on May 1st 2005 following 35 years of employment.
J.P. was a member of All Saints Church, Sons of the American Legion Gladstone Post #71 and was an avid Green Bay Packer and Detroit Redwing fan. He treasured spending time in the woods and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, the former Bonnie “B.J.” Johnson, whom he married on August 16, 1985.
3 sons: John (Melissa) Pelon Jr. of Burleson, TX; Brian (Courtney) Pelon of DePere, WI; Robert (Robin) Johnson of Houston, TX
7 grandchildren: Ryan, Reed, Brian, Emily, Mallory and Paige Pelon and Kaitlyn Johnson.
1 brother: Ernie (Bobbie) Pelon of Manistique, MI
2 sisters: Barb (Vern “Seve”) Poupore of Lanse, MI and Joan Lowery of Tucson, AZ
Sister-in-law: Honey Pilon of Manistique, MI
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Mother of his children: Margaret Pelon of Gladstone
Special friends: Bill Mercier, Mel Osier, Ownie Peterson, Chris “Duffy” and Renae Defroie.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 1 brother, Wilford Pelon Jr. and 1 sister, Carol Schroeder.
According to John’s wishes a social gathering with dinner will be held on Wednesday June 6, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Gladstone American Legion Post #71 in Gladstone.
