Our beloved aunt, Blondena C. (Louis) Peterson, age 95, died May 12th, at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. Blondena, known affectionately by her family and close friends as “Bunny”, was a lifelong resident of Gladstone until moving to the Bishop Noa Home in 2001.
Blondena was born August 10th, 1911 at 207 Delta Avenue; Gladstone. She was the only daughter of Fred and Rose (Anderson) Louis. Her two brothers, Robert and Earl Louis, preceded her in death.
On April 11th, 1936 Blondena married Helmer T. Peterson of Stonington who died in 1982
She is survived by many nieces and nehews; Noreta (Jim) Lecher of Alabama, Dawn (Robert) Tupper of Roscommon, MI., Beverly (Kent) Morris of Virginia, Leland (Gayla) Louis of Gladstone, Wayne (Carol) Louis of Menominee, Warren Louis of Indiana, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews, and by special friends, Carole and Paul Wedell of Gladstone.
After graduating from the Gladstone High School in 1929, she spent 5 years as a typing teacher at the Gladstone High School commercial department. She was later employed by Marble Card and Eaton Corp. until retiring in 1973.
Blondena was a 50 years member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the “Service Guild” and “Joy Group” and the “Womens Fellowship”. She was a life member of the Minnewasca Chapter #49 Order of Eastern Star as well as the Neighborhood Extension Club, and the Gladstone Senior Citizen Association.
She was a hunting and fishing enthusiast (still ice-fishing at 80 years of age) and loved to play cards with her friends. Blondena was an avid gardener who was known by many for her raspberries. She was considered the “family barber” by her husband, brothers, and other male family members.
“Aunt Bunny” will be greatly missed.
The family of Blondena C. Peterson will receive friends on Thursday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Eastern Star Services will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. Services celebrating Blondena’s life will follow on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Large officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the Memorial United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Entombment will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery; Wells. The family respectfully requests memorials in her behalf be directed to the Memorial United Methodist Church. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Peterson family.
