William Wallace “Bill” Weissert, age 74, of the Tender Care Health Center in Munising (formerly of Escanaba) died Wednesday May 30, 2007 at the Tender Care Health Center following a lengthy illness.
William was born February 28, 1933 in Escanaba the son of William and Martha (Fenske) Weissert. He was raised in Escanaba where he graduated from the Escanaba High School. Following graduation he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Escanaba and his working career included the Kline Mink Ranch, MacGillis & Gibbs Post Yard and Harnishfeger Corporation.
Bill loved spending time in the woods and especially deer hunting. His hobbies included watching old black and white movies and his favorites were old John Wayne movies. In recent years he enjoyed playing Bingo.

2 sons: David Weissert of Ford River, MI; Eric (Pam) Weissert of Preston, CT
3 daughters: Tammy (Bobby) Hivner of Dillsburg, PA; Peggy Weissert of Gladstone; Lisa Behmer of Seattle, WA
1 brother: John Weissert of Saginaw, MI
2 sisters: Jeanie Weissert of Ford River; Marcella (Fred) Tryan of Perkins
8 grandchildren: Kimberly, Kara, Bonnie, Nicole, Christopher, Rebecca, Scott and Jason
6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
The mother of his children, Alneida (Scheeneman) of Ford River
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by:
Daughter, Rebecca Weissert, 2 brothers, Dan and Elmer, 3 sisters, June Tryan, Louise Hanson and Maida Hanson.
Bill’s family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 to 4:45 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites will follow at 4:45 PM conducted by the Gladstone American Legion Post #71. Funeral services celebrating the life of William Wallace Weissert will follow at 5:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Laub of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
