Stanley Dominick

Stanley J. Dominick, age 79, of 10964 Hwy US 2, Rapid River died Friday morning September 7, 2007 at home following a brief illness.

Stanley was born May 14, 1928 in Detroit, MI, son of John and Anna (Wiepszanc) Dominick.  Stanley was raised in Detroit where he attended school.   On June 17, 1950 he was united in marriage to the former Mary Mauhar at the St. Charles Borremeo Church in Rapid River.

In 1944 Stanley enlisted in the US Army and trained at Fort Benning, GA as a paratrooper.  He also served in Japan during occupation.  He was honorably discharged in 1948 with the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Ribbon.

Stanley worked for the Mead Corporation in Escanaba for 38 1⁄2 years before retiring in 1989.  He served as Delta County Commissioner for 16 years.  He was also an active member of St. Charles Church where he served on various committees.  Stanley also served on school committees and he was a leader for the Ensign 4-H Club.  He was also a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.

Stanley’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, traveling, wood working and making crafts.  He treasured spending his winters with his wife Mary during retirement in Texas.

In addition to his wife Mary, survivors include:

Son: Donald (Stacy) Dominick of Gladstone

Daughter: Christine “Tina” (Jim) Gudwer of Perkins

Grandchildren: Barbara Dominick, Joshua and Timothy Gudwer

Nieces: Dorothy (Tom) Lentz and Nancy (Eugene) Jewzerski of Sterling Heights, Cheryl Krystof of Las Vegas, NV and nephew Raymond Krystof of California.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, JoAnna Krystof and Genevieve Dembek, grandson, Justin Dominick.

Stanley’s family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3:00 to 5:45 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Military rites conducted by the Rapid River American Legion Post #301 will follow at 5:45 PM.  The Rosary will be recited by the Knights of Columbus at 6:00 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating.  Luncheon will follow services at the St. Charles Church Parish Hall.  Burial will follow at the Rapid River Cemetery.
