George "Doc" Stemac, age 99, of 1227 Lake Shore Drive, Gladstone, passed away Sunday afternoon September 16, 2007 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, in Powers, where he resided for the past 14 months.

George was born April 21, 1908, in Milwaukee, the third oldest of eight children, to Michael and Antonia (Jackovick) Stemac. George was raised and lived in Gladstone his entire life. He married the former Mildred Anderson, from Wells, and Mildred preceded George in death in 1975.
George was a very devout Roman Catholic and longtime member of the All Saints Church. He was a very generous man who was always ready to lend a hand with his expertise in many fields. By trade, George was a mechanical engineer, welder and carpenter. He worked in many countries throughout the world on construction projects which included; the Alaskan pipeline, Alaskan Canadian Highway and in Saudi Arabia. George also worked at Mead Paper Company, The Buckeye Mill and Atlas Plywood. In the summer of the early fifties, George built his seven cabin resort, fondly named the "Stemac Bay View Cabins" and worked construction in the winter months. He retired at the age of seventy from the Holly Corporation Oil Terminal in Wells and spent his retirement years running his resort, tending to his lawn and marina, tinkering in the garage, running errands and keeping his guests, who became lifelong friends, happy. George dedicated a total of fifty three wonderful years to his peaceful resort and will be remembered for the impact he had on people throughout the years of owning and operating his cabins in Kipling. Many of the friendships that began with his cabin visitors, continued long after the closure of the Stemac Bay View Cabins. George had a sincere impact on people, of all walks of life, and will be fondly remembered by the lives he touched.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Antonia and his wife Mildred,

He leaves to survive several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, community and worldly friends.
 
George’s family will receive friends on Friday from 3:30PM to 5:30PM at the All Saints Church in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial, honoring the life of George Stemac, will follow visitation, on Friday, at 6:00PM, at the All Saints Church, with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Parish Hall. Committal will be on Monday at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. Contributions in George’s name may be directed to the Barrier Free Project of All Saints Church. Envelopes will be available at the All Saints Church and the Skradski Funeral Home. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Stemac family with arrangements.
