Thomas Stone

Thomas “Tom” Stone, age 67, of 1628 Lake Shore Drive, Gladstone, formerly of Crown Point, Indiana, died early morning Thursday September 6, 2007, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Tom was born August 28, 1940, in Escanaba, the son of Elmer and Eleanor (Boyle) Stone. He was raised in Escanaba and was a 1958 graduate of the Escanaba Senior High School. Following high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Army serving as a paratrooper from 1958 to 1960 at Ft. Bragg, N.C. After his honorable discharge in 1960, Tom returned to Escanaba and went to work for Tom’s Signs before acquiring a position at the Harnischfeger Corporation. On June 1, 1963, Tom exchanged wedding vows with the former Vicki Pirlot, at the St. Anne Catholic Church, in Escanaba. Upon the closer of Harnischfeger, Tom enrolled and graduated from welding school, in Marquette, at which time, he and Vicki relocated to Crown Point, Indiana where Tom was employed, as a welder, and retired after 37 years with the IBEW Local #697. Tom and Vicki returned to Gladstone in 2000 to enjoy retirement life together. Tom was extremely passionate about fishing. He enjoyed ice fishing, goose hunting in the fall, traveling to Florida with Vicki and spending many wonderful hours of his time outdoors with family and friends. He was a member of the Gladstone Yacht Club and the IBEW Local #697. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered. 

In addition to his loving wife Vicki, Tom leaves to survive:

2 Sons: Jeff (Karrie) Stone of Fishers, IND; Scott Stone of Valparaiso, IND

1 Brother: Gary Stone of Escanaba, MI

1 Sister: Pat (Lawrence) Trudeau of Gladstone, MI

2 Grandchildren: Dylan and Ben Stone

Many loving nieces, nephew, cousins and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Eleanor, Step-Father, Lionel DeGrand and sister, Carol (Bob) Brebner.       

Family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites will be conducted at 4:45PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home, by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71. Funeral services celebrating the life of Thomas “Tom” Stone will follow military rites, at 5:00PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home, with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt of the First Lutheran Church officiating. Luncheon will follow funeral services. Committal will take place on Tuesday, at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
