Martha Eagle

Martha J. “Girlie”\ “Nan” Eagle, age 88, of 311 Wisconsin Avenue; Gladstone, died Monday, October 22nd, 2007 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba where she was a patient for almost 4 years.
“Nan” was born January 16th, 1919 in Gladstone the daughter of Charles and Flossie (Pelky) Godfrey and was a lifelong Gladstone area resident.

In September of 1945, she married Joseph N. Eagle and he preceded her in death on November 11th, 1978.

During her working years, “Nan” was employed for the “Royer Fish Market”, “Hansen Canning Co.”, and the “Gamble Store”, all located in Gladstone.

She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the DAV Auxiliary of Escanaba. Gardening, baking, craft-making, and ice-skating were among some of her past-times. In addition, she also enjoyed watching sports on television and was known by her family as a “Packer-Backer”, and as a Northern Michigan University Wildcats fan. All of her grandchildren, however, were her greatest sense of joy and pride for her. They will miss their “Nan” very much.

A daughter- Carol (John) Caldwell of Gladstone

3 Brothers- Everette (Beverly) Godfrey of Escanaba; Gerald Godfrey of Rapid River; Lyle (Carol) Godfrey of Brampton

3 Sisters- Evelyn (Michael) Birkholz of Gladstone; Alice Micheau of Gladstone; Dorothy Micheau of Gladstone

4 Grandchildren-John Caldwell; Jr, Brenda Ruatti, Stephanie DeCastro; and Chad Caldwell.

6 Great-grandchildren; Brianna Caldwell; Matthew DeCastro; Alex Ruatti; Todd Ruatti; Masson Caldwell; and Makayla Caldwell.               
             
and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Charles and Flossie Godfrey and her husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by 9 bothers; Merlin, Walter, Ralph, Art, Robert, Theodore, Peter, William, and Irving Godfrey.
The family of Martha “Girlie”\ “Nan” Eagle will receive friends on Friday at the Skradski Funeral Home of Gladstone from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Service celebrating her life will follow on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Pastor Terri Branstrom of the Salisbury United Methodist Church of Ishpeming officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the Gladstone American Legion. Burial will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery; Wells.
