Victor J. “Vic” Frossard, age 81, of 1090 Highway 2 & 41, Bark River died Monday morning October 1, 2007 at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba following a brief illness.
Victor was born September 8, 1926 in Negaunee, MI the son of Joseph and Olivine (LaBresh) Frossard. Vic was raised in Tesch near Schaffer and he began working on the railroad following the 8th grade. He served his country in the US Navy during WW II aboard the USS Cowpens, the first American ship to enter Tokyo Bay for the signing of the armistice.
He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the Victory Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. Vic returned to Schaffer where he continued his working career for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 41 years, retiring in 1985.
Vic was united in marriage on June 23, 1951 to the former Donna Michel at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schaffer and for the past 56 years they made their home in the Bark River area.
Vic was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Escanaba, the Bark River American Legion Post #438 and the Union Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. His greatest passion was his family. His hobbies included woodworking, working in his vegetable and flower gardens and watching birds. He enjoyed his Sunday drives “off road adventures” and watching or listening to the Green Bay Packers.

2 daughters: Linda Frossard; and Tammy West, both of Bark River
Close family friends: Camille; Kevin; and Carli Wright of Hallendale, FL
1 brother: James (Wanda) Frossard of Riverland
4 sisters: Edna Frossard and Rosalie Kane of Escanaba; Joyce (Earl) Juneau of Schaffer; and Helen (Harold) Taylor of Green Bay, WI.
1 brother-in-law: James (Kaye) Michel of Milwaukee, WI
2 sister-in-laws: Vivian Frossard and Mary Michel of Escanaba
6 grandchildren: Derek Frossard of Schaffer, Christopher Frossard of Bark River, Scott Frossard of Green Bay, WI, Angela (Todd) Farley of Bark River, Craig West of Bark River and Stacey Frossard of Bark River.
2 great grandchildren: Gavin Frossard and Austin Farley of Bark River
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph and his sister Theresa Carlson.
Vic’s family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 to 5:15 PM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military Rites conducted by the Bark River American Legion Post #438 will follow at 5:15 PM. Mass of Christian Burial services will follow at 6:00 PM at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Escanaba with Rev. Fr. Rick Courier officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church parish hall. Pallbearers will be his 6 grandchildren
