Betsy Goetz

Betsy Goetz, age 91, of the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba (formerly of 1620 Dakota Avenue, Gladstone) died Thursday evening November 15, 2007 at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba where she was a resident.

Betsy was born November 22, 1916 in Cedar River, MI the daughter of Robert and Selma (Smaglick) Parrette. She was raised in Menomonee, MI and graduated from the Daggette High School. Betsy was united to Theodore Goetz on June 23, 1934 and they made their home in Daggette and Gladstone where they raised their four children.

Betsy was active in Girl Scouts and was a troop leader for over 20 years. She was a volunteer for Bay de Noc Community College, mentoring students in general studies. Her favorite past time activities were cooking, baking and hosting family gatherings. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling on road trips with family and friends. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Betsy was a faithful member of All Saints Church and was active in the U.P. Catholic Foresters, CCD instructor and the All Saints Guild. She was a member of the Gladstone Welfare Club, St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Michigan State Employee’s Retirement Group.

Survivors include:

2 sons; James T. Goetz of Gladstone and Ted A. (Connie) Goetz of Norway, MI

2 daughters; Sally T. (Bill) Soderstrom of Rapid River and Susan D. (Hollis) Habeger of St. John, IN

1 brother; Donald Parrette of Seeley Lake, Montana

3 sisters; Dorothy Herson, Patsy Jolin, and Sara Dessart, all of Menomonee, MI..

8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren

Numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by:

Husband; Theodore on October 12, 1987

Grandson: Steve Soderstrom

Sisters; Kathleen Ruleau and Jane Hanchek

Brothers; Bill, Dick and Robert Parrette

Betsy’s family will receive friends on Monday from 10:30 to 11:45 A.M. at the All Saints Church in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial Services will follow at 12:00 noon at the All Saints Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells, MI.
