Dorothy Miketinac

Dorothy A. Miketinac, age 81, of Gladstone passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
 
Dorothy was born November 30, 1925 in Escanaba to George and Anna (Rodman) Shomin. She has resided in Escanaba most of her life except for a time she lived in Marquette and Ann Arbor. She is a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Escanaba and attended the Cloverland Commercial College for one year. Early in Dorothy’s career she was employed as a receptionist in a doctor’s office and the Health Department. In 1962 she started working as a secretary for the Escanaba Public Schools and remained there until she retired. Dorothy was a life member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel and was a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Escanaba. She was a devoted Catholic and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, going to the theatre and the opera, reading,  and playing bridge. Dorothy was united in marriage to Merle Pfotenhauer, who preceded her in death. She was later remarried to Frank Miketinac on October 12, 1976 in Escanaba. Dorothy and Frank spent several years working together for the Escanaba Public Schools.

Son: James Pfotenhauer of Cornell, MI

Daughter: Pat Sanford of Grand Blanc, MI

Step-sons: Steve (Bonnie) Miketinac of Escanaba, MI; Richard (Sandy) Miketinac of Gladstone, MI; Mike (Denise) Miketinac of Green Bay, WI

Step-daughters: Roberta Miketinac of DePere, WI; Karen Baier of Green Bay, WI

Brother: George (Virginia) Shomin of Escanaba, MI
 
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Merle Pfotenhauer, her parents, 2 brothers: Nick and Richard Shomin and a sister: Mary Shimp.
 
Dorothy’s family will receive friends on Thursday, November 29 from 6:30 to 7:30 at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 30 at 11:00 AM at St. Anne’s Catholic Church with Rev. Father Mike Steber officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow Mass in the church fellowship hall. Dorothy will be laid to rest at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes may be picked up at the funeral home.
