Margaret Walitalo

Margaret Louise Walitalo, 70, of 2530 14th Road, Bark River, (Hyde area), died Saturday morning December 1, 2007, at her home, following an 8 month illness with cancer.

Margaret was born September 24, 1937, in Gladstone, the daughter of Leo and Bernadette (Stevens) LaVigne. She was raised in Gladstone and attended the All Saints Catholic School. Throughout her life, Margaret worked primarily as a homemaker and in addition she was employed at the Sayklly’s Chocolate Factory, Elmers Bakery and Christian Park Nursing Homes.

Margaret was always full of energy and enjoyed walking, swimming and playing shuffle board. In later years, Margaret treasured wintering in Arizona with her loving companion, Harold. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing pool and going on shopping trips. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and will be deeply missed by those who loved and knew her.

Survivors include;

Loving companion and best friend, Harold Cousineau

3 daughters: Cathy Ann (Scott) Erickson of West Bend, WI; Julie Ann (Randy) Stammer of Black Creek, WI; Kelly Jean (Ronald) Robinson of Grand Rapids, MI

Step daughter: Heidi (Brian) Deiter of Ford River, MI

Harold’s children; Rod Cousineau of Escanaba; Renee (Jeff) Leffew of Hamilton, MI

2 brothers; Kenneth (Sharon) LaVigne of Gladstone and Leo (Janet) LaVigne of Escanaba

Sister; Ann (William) Monville of Gladstone

12 Grandchildren; Allison and Tyler Stammer, Tony Cryderman, Stefin, Cainan and Megan Robinson, Justin, Brian Jr. and Christin Deiter, Mason Leffew, Luke and Jessica Cousineau.

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-son, Todd Walitalo and brothers, Robert and Richard LaVigne.

Margaret’s family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial Services celebrating the life of Margaret Louise Walitalo will follow at 1:00 PM at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wells with Rev. Fr. Cory Litzner officiating. Entombment will follow at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. Luncheon will follow committal services at the St. Anthony Church Parish Hall.
