Gordon Edward Borst, age 77, of Bark River passed away Thursday, January 17, 2008.
Mr. Borst was born July 18, 1930 in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of the late Glen and Annabelle (Hovde) Borst. He served in the United States Navy from 1948-1952 and was a Korean War veteran. On June 26, 1954 Gordon married Mary Ellen Lynch in St. Paul, Minnesota. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he went west to work on cattle and sheep ranches. Later he was a manager for several Neisner Brothers retail stores. He and Mary owned and operated The People’s Café and Lewis Market. The last 15 years he worked for Pizza Hut. Gordon was well known for his love of horses. His other interests were reading, writing short stories and poetry, playing guitar and cooking. Gordon.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ellen,
3 daughters: Allison Mellgren of West Bend, WI; Julie (Dale) Akerley of Gwinn, MI; Kate (Don) Anderson of Panama City, FL
8 Grandchildren: Zachary and Jacob Mellgren, Matthew and Nicholas Akerley, Steven, Hannah, Rebecca and Abigail Anderson
2 Sisters: Beverly Blackstad of Wannemingo, MN; Sharon Baechler, Guilford, Connecticut
Numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The Borst family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 6:00PM on Tuesday, January 22 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Bark River. Memorial Services will follow at 6:00 PM at the church with Rev. Len Gilley officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately following services at the church.
