Eleanor M. Carriere, age 87, of 2000 Lakeshore Drive, Gladstone, MI died Monday January 21, 2008 at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba with her daughters at her side.
Eleanor was born February 24, 1920 in Perkins, the daughter of Henry and Josie (DeCramer) Carlson. She was raised in Rock where she graduated from the Rock High School. Following graduation she attended and graduated from Cosmetology School. Eleanor owned and operated various beauty shops in Gladstone.
Eleanor was united in marriage to Clarence “Clancy” Carriere on February 21, 1953 and they made their home in Gladstone where they raised their 3 daughters. She was an active member of All Saints Church in Gladstone, the Gladstone Child’s Welfare Club and Bay Sages. For over 50 years she enjoyed bowling with the same team of friends. Eleanor enjoyed swimming and participating in water aerobics at the YMCA. She treasured spending time with her family at their cottage on Round Lake. She loved traveling, and for the last few years she enjoyed the company of her “condo sisters” on Lake Shore Drive. Eleanor will always be remembered for her smile and wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors include:
3 daughters: Bonnie (Doug) Bovin of Gladstone; Melanie (Mike Lanier) Carriere of Jacksonville, FL; Chris Nivison of Gladstone
5 grandchildren: Dan (Magali) Bovin, Carrie (Sean Groberman) Bovin, and Cody, Carly and Cole Nivison
1 great granddaughter: Lillian Eleanor Groberman
1 brother: Clifford “Toodie” Carlson of Rock
1 sister: Lois Dodge of Auburn, WA
1 sister-in-law: Bernice DeHooghe of Gladstone
Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and grand and great grand pets
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Clancy on September 4, 2006, son-in-law, Kelly Nivison on February 22, 2007, brother, Norman Carlson and sister, Dorothy Carlson.
Eleanor’s family will receive friends on Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Eleanor M. Carriere will follow at 6:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Gilbert Neurohr officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the All Saints Church Parish Hall.
