Ethel M. Olson, age 84, of 1405 Wisconsin Avenue; Gladstone passed away Friday, January 18th, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Born the daughter of Sylvester and Mathilda (Joint) Schram on March 28th, 1923 in Escanaba, Ethel was raised in Gladstone and was a 1942 graduate of the Gladstone High School.
In adulthood, she was employed at “Kinney Shoe Store” in Escanaba and she later relocated to the Milwaukee area and was subsequently employed at “Briggs and Stratton Corporation” in Milwaukee for three years.. While living in that area, she met Eugene H. “Ole” Olson and they were married February 10th, 1945 in Gladstone. After their marriage, they permanently moved to Gladstone where they raised their family. Ethel continued her local employment at “Ludington Motors” in Escanaba for a number of years and was last engaged at “DeLisle Shoes” in Gladstone.
Ethel was a longtime member of All Saints Church and in her leisure she took pleasure in sewing, knitting, and cooking. She also enjoyed “Bingo”, playing cards, dancing, and fishing.
Ethel Olson’s survivors include:
2 daughters-Judy Umbreit of Milwaukee, WI; Jean (Robert) Lincoln of DePere, WI
1 Brother- James (Fiancé, Ann) Schram of Shelby Twp., MI
1 Sister- Doris (Raymond) McDonough of Escanaba
9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eugene “Ole” Olson, in 1998;
a son, Ricky Olson, on July 5th, 1999; and by a daughter, Peggy Miller, on September 16th, 1999.
The family of Ethel Olson will receive friends on Tuesday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at All Saints Church with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden and Rev. Fr. Gilbert Neurohr officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the All Saints Parish Hall. Burial will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery; Wells. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Olson family.
