Norma M. Emory, age 84, of E4856 Hwy M-35, Escanaba, died peacefully Saturday morning February 23, 2008, at the Christian Park Health Care Facility in Escanaba. Her greatest pleasure in life was helping people. Often she would go without things to give what she had to others. Living through the depression she had a strong sense of sharing with those who were in need. Other children in her family were Robert, Fred, Betty, and Max. Preceding her in death was her mother, father, a brother Robert, and a brother Max. The remaining three children stayed close all of their lives.

Norma was born February 6, 1924, in Cadillac, MI, the eldest daughter of Carl and Flossie (Rust) Caldwell. She was raised in Manton, MI and attended the Manton Consolidated School System. On December 30, 1941, at the age of eighteen years of age, she married Adrian L. Emory. It was a marriage that would last 64 years until his death in 2005. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Ford River Community Chapel. Shortly after their marriage in 1941, Adrian left to fight in World War II. He was gone three years, three months, and three days. While he was gone, Norma lived next to her sister-in-law Fern and her grandparents William and Stella. It was during that time that they built the family home. In 1943 she gave birth to their only child Patricia who later went on to be united in marriage to, Gary Hoffmeyer.

In 1990, Norma and "Red", as Adrian was fondly referred to as, sold their farm in Wexford County and moved to Escanaba to be closer to family. By that time they had four grandchildren and many great grandchildren to enjoy. In addition to Norma’s wonderful family 1 great great grandchild, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Throughout Norma’s life, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, watching football and cheering for the Detroit Lions and cooking. Her most famous dish was canned venison with fresh morel mushrooms and homemade noodles. Norma also enjoyed spending time with her pet bird "Pete" and loved to spend quality time with her family and grandchildren. She was a giving person and Bible verses to remember her by, picked by her daughter, would be Matthew 5:41-42-

"If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one
who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from
you."

Norma’s family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3:00PM to 4:00PM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Norma M. Emory will follow visitation, at 4:00PM, at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home, with Pastor Chad Johnson of the Cedar River Congregational Church officiating. Luncheon will follow funeral services at the Ford River Community Chapel. All are invited and most welcome to attend. Committal will take place at the Lakeview Cemetery in Manton, MI. Memorial contributions in Norma’s name maybe directed to the Christian Park Health Care Facility. Envelopes will be available at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Emory family with arrangements.
