Anthony Bodanyi

Anthony “Tony” Bodanyi, age 85, of 12591 Hwy U.S. 2, Rapid River, died early Friday morning March 14, 2008, at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans, located in Marquette. 
 
Tony was born August 4, 1922, in Mt. Clemens, MI, the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Kennesy) Bodanyi.  Tony was raised in Mt. Clemens and attended the Mt. Clemens school system.  After his years in school, Tony enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1942 to 1945, with the 102nd Army Infantry Division, in the European Theatre, during WWII.  On May 1, 1945, Tony was united in marriage to the former Sadie Ungar, in Trenton, NJ, and together the couple eventually made their home and began their family in the lower part of Michigan.  While living in Lower Michigan, Tony worked, for many years, as an operating engineer, for the Operating Engineer’s Local Union #324.  In 1967, Tony and Sadie relocated to the U.P. where Tony gained employment at the Harnischfeger Corporation working for the company from 1968 until his retirement in 1982.  In his earlier years, Tony was a member of the Rapid River American Legion Walter W. Cole Post #301.  Throughout his life he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and raising pigeons.  He will be deeply missed. 
In addition to his wife of 63years, Sadie, Tony is survived by:
 
3 Sons:  Michael (Kieron) Bodanyi of Attica, MI, Victor (Tracy Heinzman) Bodanyi of Alexandria, VA, Tony (Barbara) Bodanyi of Lake Villa, FL

5 Grandchildren:  Ryan, Nicholas, Victoria, Stephanie and Maggie Rose

Also listed among the surviving family are numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. 
 
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Elizabeth:
3 Brothers:  Mickey, Victor and Louis Bodanyi
1 Sister:  Elizabeth Hurd
 
Tony’s family will receive friends on Tuesday March 25, 2008, from 12:00PM to 2:00PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Military rites will be conducted, on Tuesday, at 1:45PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home, by the Rapid River American Legion Walter W. Cole Post #301.  Funeral services celebrating the life of Anthony “Tony” Bodanyi will follow military rites, at 2:00PM, at the funeral home, with Deacon Rod Groleau officiating.  Refreshments will be served continuously throughout the Bodanyi visitation.  Memorial contributions in Tony’s name may be directed to the Delta County Cancer Alliance.  Envelopes will be available at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Bodanyi family with arrangements.
