Donald Louis “Don” Carignan, age 72, of 510 1st Avenue South, Escanaba, died Saturday evening March 22, 2008 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where he was a resident.
Donald was born May 17, 1935 in Escanaba the son of Rene and Eileen (Flemal) Carignan who were originally from Cornell. Don was raised in Baraboo, WI where he attended the Baraboo Public Schools. Following his schooling he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Don returned to the Cornell area in 1969. Don was self employed as a semi-truck driver and he also had worked for several area trucking companies, retiring from MTC Trucking. He also did construction work, working for the Teamsters.
Don loved the outdoors, whether it was working in his yard, garden, hunting or fishing. He enjoyed going to his camp and spending time with his boys. Don was an avid Green Bay Packer and NASCAR fan. He especially treasured taking his dog Tucker for car rides.

2 daughters: Catherine (John) Anderson of Cornell, Rene (Mike) Boddy of Gladstone
2 step-sons: Jamie (Beth) Peterson of Escanaba, Johannes Simmons of Escanaba
1 step-daughter: Natalie Simmons of Yakima, WA
4 brothers: Tom (Sheila) Carignan of Mukwongo, WI, Larry (Pat) Carignan of Baraboo, WI, Frank (Marsha) Carignan of Madison, WI, Mike (Dawn) Carignan of North Freedom, WI
3 sisters: Nancy (Ted) Ryder of Madison, WI, Joanne (Arnie) Braund of Madison, WI, Mary Carignan of Waterford, WI
12 grandchildren: Rachel Boddy, Ryan Carignan, Adam Carignan, Cory Boddy, Jake Anderson, Michaela Boddy, Erin Boddy, Cierra Carignan, Cydnie Carignan, Jordon Carignan, Gabe Peterson and Jack Peterson.
Great grandson: Jack Carignan
Numerous nieces, nephew and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Donald Carignan will follow on Thursday at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Harmon of the Central United Methodist Church officiating. Luncheon will follow services. Memorial contributions may be directed to the O.S.F. Hospice, envelopes will be available at the Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes.
