Thomas J. Gibbs, age 82, of 5807 M 35, Perkins, MI died Tuesday morning March 11, 2008 at home.
Thomas was born May 8, 1925 in Escanaba the son of Horace and Elizabeth (O’Connor) Gibbs. He was life long resident of Perkins except for eight years when he served his country in the US Navy during WW II, and when he resided in Detroit.
Throughout his working career he was a broker for the timber and pulpwood industry and co-owned with his friend Bud, the Red Owl Grocery in Perkins.
Thomas was a member of the Perkins Lions Club, Perkins American Legion and the St. Joseph Church in Perkins. He was avid Detroit Tiger fan and he was committed to helping with many charity events in the Perkins area. Thomas had a love for music, and he will be sadly missed by family and friends.
In addition to his lifelong friend, Daniel “Bud” Norden, survivors include;
2 sisters: Mary DePuydt of Greenville, MI and Elaine Trottier of Watervliet, MI
Numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Horace, Edward, Wilbur and James, 7 sisters, Dorothy Philbin, Jane Louis, Audry Hughes, Loretta MacNamara, Margaret Thomlenson, Joyce Welsh and Betty Rockwood.
Thomas family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the St. Joseph Church in Perkins. Mass of Christian Burial Services celebrating the life of Thomas J. Gibbs will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church parish hall. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba.
Memorial contributions in memory of Thomas Gibbs may be directed to the Marquette General Home Hospice or Walk for Warmth. Envelopes will be available at the St. Joseph Church or the Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes. Special thanks to Sue Noren, Mary Pat and Sr. Dionne of Hospice.
