Harry Joseph Balenger, age 82, of 804 North 15th Street, Escanaba, MI died Thursday evening June 12, 2008 at home following a brief illness.

Harry was born July 5, 1925 in Gladstone the son of Walter and Bertha (Cooper) Balenger. Harry was united in marriage to the former Josephine “Betty” Moreau on December 11, 1948 and they made their home in Gladstone where they raised their children.

Harry’s working career included working for Harnischfeger Corporation from 1952 to 1966, and the Sheet Metals Workers Union Local #7 from 1966 until his retirement in 1987. His hobbies included woodworking and going to the casino. Harry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include:

3 sons: Michael (Colleen) Balenger of Gladstone, Gregory Balenger of Stonington, Sco0tt (Brenda) Balenger of Gladstone

2 daughters: Annamae (Eugene) Nickell of Escanaba, Deborah (John) Vargo of Escanaba

1 sister; Frances Kee of Gladstone

8 grandchildren: Pam (Jim) Gibbs, Sally (Rob) Rager, Becky (Rick) Neumann, Clifford Pepin, Tricia Balenger, Elijah Balenger, Andie Balenger, and Greg (Susan) Jarvey.

3 great grandchildren; Joey Gibbs, Trisha Neumann, and Ryan Neumann.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his wife Josephine on November 22, 1996

According to Harry’s wishes, no visitation will be held. Graveside committal services celebrating the life of Harry Joseph Balenger will be held on Wednesday June 18, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone with his son Elder Michael Balenger officiating.
