James “Jim” Farrell, age 68, of Rapid River (Stonington area) passed away Sunday afternoon at home following a lengthy illness.
Jim was born June 10, 1940 in Escanaba, Michigan, the son of Edward and Astrid (Helman) Farrell. He was united in marriage to Maryce Anderson on October 22, 1960 at the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone, Michigan. Jim graduated from Northern Michigan College and later received a master’s degree in education from the University of Montana-Missoula. Jim’s teaching career began in Carney, Michigan and after one year he moved to Pulaski, Wisconsin where he taught at the Pulaski High School for 35 years until his retirement in 1997. Jim was also involved with numerous activities at the school including being the FBLA and Senior Class advisor. Jim was also a longtime Lions Club member, since 1970, and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.

8 Grandchildren: Sara and Holly Swenson, Jake and Ian Romanas, Natasha Farrell; Jason (Heidi) White, Sally (Rob) Beres and Joe White
4 Great Grandchildren: Jonas, Matea, Ben and Katelyn
2 Brothers: Ed (Beth) Farrell of Fenton, MI; Charles (Karen) Farrell of Gladstone, MI
4 Sisters: Joyce Marmalick of Gladstone, MI, Pat (Jim) Brusoe of DePere, WI; Barb Nelson of Gladstone; Diane (Mick) Bergeon of Gladstone, MI

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Wayne Marmalick, Verne Nelson and Tom Anderson.
The Farrell family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28 at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 11:00 AM to 1:45 PM. Funeral honors will be presented by the Rapid River Lions Club at 1:45. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 at the funeral home with Rev. Father Arnold Grambow of All Saints Catholic Church officiating. An Irish Wake will be held from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71 with a buffet dinner being served. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rapid River Lions Club to benefit the Northwoods Air Lifeline and the Baycliff Health Camp at P.O. Box 272, Rapid River, MI 49878.
