June L. Hawkinson, age 89, of Gladstone, passed away Wednesday morning, June 25th, 2008, at the Manor Care Facility in Kingsford where she was currently a patient.
June was born October 15th, 1918 in Gladstone, the daughter of Frank and Violet (LaLande) Burnett and was a life-long Gladstone resident. In 1936, she graduated valedictorian from the Gladstone High School and was employed as a secretary and office worker much of her working life. In her earlier years, June was employed with the Gladstone Justice of the Peace, Gladstone District Court, and also with the Empson Insurance Agency in Gladstone. For the last 20 years of her working career, June was employed as secretary at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone of which she was an active and very faithful member for many years.
"June married Roy Hawkinson March 16th, 1946 at First Lutheran Church and he preceded her in death March 15th, 2000. Roy was well known as the manager of Delta-Alger Electric Cooperative.
In addition to her active membership to First Lutheran Church, she also was an active and charter member of the “Church Altar Guild” and the Tuesday “Church Sewing Circle”. June was a care-giver at heart and performed that duty quietly and without reservation when she felt compelled to do so. Most importantly, June and Roy’s grandchildren were central to their lives, and they were lovingly involved with many aspects of the grandchildren’s endeavors.
June Hawkinson’s survivors include;
A son, Bruce (Linda) Hawkinson of Norway
3 Grandchildren- Casey Hawkinson of Green Bay, Shaun (Angie) Hawkinson of Chicago, and Brent Hawkinson of Chicago;
A sister-in-law, Myrtle Ottensman, of Gladstone,
and by nieces and nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband of 54 years, Roy, June was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Isaacson.
The family of June Hawkinson will receive friends on Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services celebrating her life will follow on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the First Lutheran Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery; Wells. The family respectfully requests memorials be directed to the First Lutheran Church.
