Mary E. Shine, 91, of the Christian Park Village in Escanaba (formerly of Gladstone and Houghton) died Friday morning July 11, 2008 at the Christian Park Village.
Mary was born February 9, 1917 in Painesdale the daughter of Anton and Mary (Backer) Stimac. Mary attended Painesdale schools, graduating from Jeffers in 1934. Mary continued her education at the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Hancock, graduating with the class of 1938. Following graduation, Mary worked for the War Memorial Hospital in the Soo and she also worked for the Lincoln and Highland Park Hospital’s in Detroit.
Mary was united in marriage to William Shine on September 29, 1939 in St. Ignace and they moved to the Detroit area in 1940. They resided in Detroit until 1948 when they relocated back to Painesdale. They later moved to Houghton in 1953, where Mary worked for the Houghton County Medical Care Facility as an R.N. from 1963 until her retirement in 1982.
Survivors include:
2 sons: William (Kathy) Shine of Gladstone; James Shine of Milwaukee
1 daughter: Dianne (Bob) Dost of Lorton, VA
1 sister: Ann Lasio of Laurium, MI
5 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons
Numerous nieces and nephews
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 2005.
According to Mary’s wishes, no visitation or services will be held. Burial will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
