Marta L. Berg, age 83, of 511 Michigan Ave, died unexpectedly Thursday evening August 21st, 2009 at the St. Francis Hospital Emergency Room in Escanaba.
Marta was born August 13, 1925 in Lebanon Junction, Kentucky to James and Mary (Stopher) Tungette. Following graduation Marta joined the Salvation Army where she served many communities throughout the United States and abroad.
On August 19th 1955 she was united in marriage to Edward “Ed” Berg. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Paris France and traveled the world. Following Ed’s retirement from the U.S. Air force, they settled in Gladstone Michigan where they raised their 3 children.
Marta devoted her life to her family, friends, church and community. She treasured assisting anyone in need and volunteered to numerous organizations. She served as the secretary for many years at Gladstone’s Grace Baptist church and was a member of Watson Bible Chapel. Marta ministered to all but her greatest joy was teaching children at Sunday school. She found her grace through daily prayer and was a member of many prayer groups. Marta was a member of the Christian Woman’s Club and served as a board member, she was also a member of the BCW and Stone Croft Ministry. Marta’s hobbies included knitting, volunteering and being an avid Detroit Tiger fan. She also loved spending evening dinners with her special Birthday Club.
Marta has touched many lives and will be sadly missed by all that knew her.

3 daughters: Martanna Lesley of Gladstone, Greta Berg of Ishpeming, Sue Martin of Ishpeming
Sister-in-law; Ollie Sullivan of Little York, IN
Sister; Linda Irene Stockdale of Columbus, IN
7 Grandchildren; Justin, Joshua, Ashley, Matthew, Emilee, Brianna and Daniel
Numerous nieces and nephews
Her beloved dog; King Cracker Jack
In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her brother, James Tungette and nephew Ronnie Tungette.
Marta’s family will receive friends on Tuesday August 26th, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Grace Baptist Church in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating Marta’s life will take place at 4:00 pm with Rev. Dale Ecklid officiating. Luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall following services. Inurnment will be at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
