Evelyn Caswell

Evelyn M. Caswell, age 77, of 10274 Hwy U.S. 2; Rapid River (Masonville Twp.) passed away on Friday evening, August 1st, 2008 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba following a lengthy illness.

Evelyn was born in Gladstone to William and Flora (Lee) Jones on May 2nd, 1931 and was raised in the Gladstone and Chaison areas. On August 7th, 1948, she married Nolan R. Caswell in Gladstone. During their married life, Evelyn and Nolan lived in various locations in the central U.P. and in 1996, they permanently relocated to the Rapid River area moving there from the Corner Lake area of Wetmore. During her working life, Evelyn was employed as a housekeeper for a number of motels in Delta and Alger Counties and had also worked at Northern Veneer Co. in Gladstone for a period of time. In her leisure, Evelyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing, and flower and truck farming.

In addition to her devoted husband of 60 years, Nolan, Evelyn’s survivors include:

4 Sons- Nolan Glen (Julie) Caswell of Grafton, WI; Wesley (Sammy Jo) Caswell of Escanaba; Raymond (Mary Peters) Caswell of Brampton; Mark (Pam) Caswell of Rapid River

2 Brothers- Warren (Barbara) Jones of Gladstone; William “Billie” (Joyce) Jones of Gladstone

4 Sisters- Marie Dahn of Brampton; Doris (Bill) Dahn of Bramton; Carol (David) King of the Danforth area; Dorothy Hardwick of Escanaba

numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Myron Jones.

The family of Evelyn M. Caswell will receive friends at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services celebrating her life will follow on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Bergquist officiating. Luncheon will follow services at the Day River Lions Club at Brampton Twp. Hall. Burial will be in the Rapid River Cemetery. The Skradski-Boyce Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Caswell family.
