Bernice Petersen

Died September 20, 2008


Bernice M. Petersen, age 86, passed away peacefully, Saturday September 20, 2008, at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba, surrounded by her loving family.

Bernice was born March 26, 1922, in Escanaba, the daughter of John and Alma (St. Antoine) Jungles. She was raised in Escanaba and attended the St. Joseph Catholic School. On January 16, 1940, Bernice was united in marriage to Robert A. Petersen at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Together, Robert and Bernice made their home, raised their family and spent their entire lives in Escanaba. Robert preceded Bernice in death on August 27, 2001. Throughout her life, Bernice worked primarily as a homemaker. In addition, Bernice volunteered many hours of her time throughout the Escanaba community. Bernice was a member of the St. Joseph St. Patrick Church in Escanaba. She enjoyed snowmobiling, golf and spending time with and caring for her family and grandchildren. Bernice was a loving wife, devoted mother, caring grandmother, sister and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include:

5 Daughters: Mary Bink of Escanaba, MI; Pat Denome of Escanaba, MI; Bonnie (Dan) Sell of Texas; Chris Petersen of Appleton, WI; Jenny (Bob) Pagel of Alabama

Brother: Jack (Jill) Jungles of Escanaba, MI

16 Grandchildren: Lynne, Greg (Mary), Frank (LeAnn) III, Kerri (Jon), Bobbi (Cory), Debbie, Jesse, Scott (Traci), Tricia (Steve), Randy (Shannon), Richie, Annie (Mike), Andrew, Meghan (Nathan), Luke and Nick (Nicole).

In addition to her parents, John and Alma and her husband, Robert, Bernice was preceded in death by:

Bernice’s family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:00PM to 3:30PM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial services will follow visitation, at 4:00PM, at the St. Joseph St. Patrick Church, with Rev. Fr. Eric Olson officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Joseph St. Patrick Parish Hall. Committal services will be held on Thursday, at 11:30AM, at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. Bernice’s family would like to extend a warm hearted thank you to the nurses and staff, at Bishop Noa home, for their wonderful care and kindheartedness to Bernice over the years. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Petersen family with arrangements.
