Eva Short

Died September 21, 2008


Eva L. Short, age 91, of 10578 S.75 Road; Rapid River, passed away Sunday morning, September 21st, 2008 at Sunny Shores Assisted Living in Gladstone.

Eva was born in Gladstone on February 10th, 1917 the daughter of Arthur and Delia (Bunno) Thiverge, was raised in Gladstone and was a 1934 graduate of the Gladstone High School.

She was employed at the Gladstone State Bank as a book-keeper for a number of years and later met Ned Short of Rapid River. They married February 22nd, 1941 in Gladstone and they subsequently made their married home in Rapid River. Ned was a well known and respected Rapid River businessman and he preceded her in death November 15th, 2005.

Eva was a long-time and active member of St. Charles Borromeo Church of Rapid River. Eva and Ned enjoyed traveling and visited almost all the States of the Union and wintered in Arizona in latter years. Baking, gardening, and doing puzzles were some of her favorite past-times but spending time with her family was her greatest joy. She is remembered by family and friends as always having a beautiful smile and an all around great person.   

Eva Short’s survivors include:

2 Sons- Daniel (Sally) Short of Sunland, CA; Patrick (Mary) Short of Covina, CA

2 Daughters- Mary Ann Hale of Gladstone; Neva Short of Chandler, AZ

1 Brother- Arthur (Mary Lou) Thivierge of Signal Mountain, TN

1 Sister- Veron Paeske of Escanaba

numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband, Ned, Eva was preceded in death by three sisters; Mary Lou Kukanic, Eileen Eckstrom, and Helen Dupzas.

The family of Eva L. Short will receive friends on Thursday at St. Charles Church in Rapid River from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Charles Church with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtlklo and Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the church parish hall. Burial will be in the Rapid River Cemetery. The Skradski-Boyce Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Short family.
