John Sloan
Resided in Flint, MI
Died May 5, 2008


Born March 10, 1942, in Flint, MI, to former area residents John A. Sr. and Alice E. (Nygren) Sloan. Passed from this vale of tears, May 5, 2008, after a two-year battle against bladder cancer.

Jack was the grandson of early immigrants of Delta County, namely: Fredrick (Christina) Andersson, Frank (Agnes) Nygren, James H. (Margaret A. E.) Sloan. Baptized as an infant, he was the Godchild of Louis (Alvina) Sorgenfrei. A 1960 graduate of Clio High School, Clio, MI, he joined the U.S. Navy soon after. He served his country as a Naval Photo Interpreter during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his Naval service, he soon went to work for Eastern Airlines, as a mechanic, in Miami and Detroit Metro Airports. His most recent employment was as a Maintenance Manager for ATA Airlines. Throughout his career he lived and worked in MI, FL, WY, KA, CO, Europe and Saudi Arabia. He loved to travel in his motor home and on is Goldwing. A master "Mr. Fixit", he loved to repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or electronic equipment and was also known for his sense of humor.

Known as Johnny to his family, he was the father of Joseph (Trish) Sloan of Sylva, NC, James (Krisann) Sloan of Cheney, WA and Lisa-Elizabeth Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; his grandchildren, Seth, Kayla, Tatum Sloan and Cody A. Johnson; his sister; Kaye (Ray) Willemot of Gladstone, MI and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews are left to mourn his passing.

Graveside services and military honors, to remember the life of John A. "Jack" Sloan, will be conducted on Monday, September 8, 2008, at 2:00PM, at the Rapid River Cemetery with Pastor Chris Gilbert of the Assembly of God Church and the Rapid River American Legion Post #301, officiating. At the request of the Sloan family, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Youth Dept. at Escanaba Assembly of God Church or the Wyoming American Legion Post#42 in support of the Rustlers/Roughriders AA Baseball team. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Sloan family with arrangements.
