Lucille Larsen

Died December 1, 2008


Lucille Larsen, age 85, of 1401 North 23rd, Escanaba, MI passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 with her daughter’s at her side, at the Hospice House of St. Lawrence Campus of Sparrow Hospital, in Lansing, MI.

Lucille was born April 18, 1923 in Norwich, Connecticut the daughter of Aleksander and Bronislawa (Jankowski) Zalewski who were Polish immigrants to the United States. Lucille was united in marriage to Gordon Larsen, then a submariner in the U.S. Navy, on July 11, 1942 in Norwich, Connecticut. Upon Gordon’s retirement in 1957, they moved to Ensign. In 1963 they resided in Florida until 1973 when they returned to Rapid River. Shortly after Gordon’s death in 1993, Lucille moved to Escanaba.

Lucille was a member of the Escanaba Senior Center. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, shopping and playing bingo. Numerous relatives in Connecticut and Michigan will remember the life Lucille relished and shared as testimony to her endearing kindness and love. She will never be forgotten because of what she stood for, never ending youth, humor and strong family values.

Survivors include;

2 daughters; Barbara Hess of Gladstone, MI and Nancy (Lynn) Egbert of Lansing, MI

4 grandchildren; Sheri Walraven of Haslett, MI, Todd (Tina) Hess of Rolling Meadows, IL, Kristi Clemens of Washington, D.C. and Chip “Lynn, Jr.” (Brianna) Egbert of Naples, FL.

2 great grandchildren; Kelsie and Karlie Walraven of Haslett, MI

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Garry, 4 sisters, Jean, Alice, Helen and Vivian, and 1 brother, Peter.

According to Lucille’s wishes, private visitation and funeral services will be held on Saturday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Rev. Jackie Roe of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Gladstone and Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo of the St. Charles Catholic Church of Rapid River will be officiating. Burial will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells, MI.
