Patrick Sullivan

Died December 22, 2008


Patrick G. Sullivan, age 76, of 502 Michigan Ave. Gladstone, passed away on Monday, December 22nd, 2008 at home surrounded by family members. Pat was born December 26th, 1931 in Gladstone the son of Henry and Eunice (Lester) Sullivan and he was always proud of his Irish ancestry. After his graduation from the Gladstone High School, Pat entered military service and served his country from 1949 to 1952 with the United States Air Force. He also was a member of the National Guard until 1962. For over 32 years, Pat was employed for Harnischfeger Corporation in Escanaba and retired as a machinist.

Pat was united in marriage to the former Theresa M. Derouin on September 13th, 1952 at St. Anne Chapel in Escanaba and together raised five children.

Pat and Theresa enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and gardening. Many family and friends were treated to his vegetables he grew from seed and with his own special compost. In addition, he enjoyed woodworking and loved making his wife, Theresa, and other family members many items that they will always cherish, including the pram, ”MIDERIKASU” , rocking horses, and cradles. Flying model remote airplanes, snowmobiling, and ice-fishing were additional hobbies and past-times for Pat, however, spending time with family and friends was paramount in his life.       

Pat Sullivan was a member of All Saints Church, Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department, Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post # 71, 40 and 8, and the Good Sam’s Travel Club.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Theresa, Pat’s survivors include:

2 Sons- Mike (Colleen Myrand) Sullivan of Gladstone; Rick (Debbie) Sullivan of Indianapolis, Indiana

3 Daughters-Deb (Bill) Potvin of Rapid River; Kathy (Bill) Elliott of Brampton; Sue (Bill) Bowman of Rapid River

20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; Harvey Ward, William Ward, Thomas Ward, and Earl Ward, and by five sisters; Margaret McLeod, Ruth DuRoy, Mable Stemac, Delores Grailer, and Earladean Stade.

The family of Patrick Sullivan will receive friends on Sunday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 12:00 Noon to 3:15 p.m. Military Rites will be conducted at 3:15 by the Gladstone American Legion. Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will follow at 4:00 p.m. at All Saints Church with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will immediately follow in the church parish hall. Burial will be Monday in Fernwood Cemetery.
