Stanely Englund

Stanley W. “Stosh” Englund, age 61, of 14370 Hwy M-35,  passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his home in Rock, Tuesday February 3, 2009, due to an apparent heart attack.
 
Stanley was born November 28, 1947, in Marquette, the son of Earl and Celia (Lusardi) Englund.  He was raised in McFarland and attended and graduated from the Rock High School in 1965.  On November 9, 1967, Stanley was drafted into the United States Army where he served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam.  Throughout his years in the U.S. Army, Stanley received medals of accommodation which included: The unselfish and heroic Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 1960, Sharpshooter (Rifle M-16) and Marksman (Rifle M-14).  Upon his discharge on January 30, 1969, Stanley returned to the McFarland/Rock area where he went to work on the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base as a heavy equipment operator.  Stanley was employed for K.I. Sawyer for eleven years, at which time, he accepted a position with the Mead Paper Corporation where he continued to work, as a heavy equipment operator, until his retirement in 1998.  Prior to gaining employment at Mead Paper, Stanley was united in marriage to the former Kathryn Brunette at the St. Joseph Parish in Perkins.  Together Stanley and Kathryn made their home and began their family in Rock, where Stanley has remained the majority of his life.  Stanley was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Rock American Legion Post #559 and the Rock Lions Club.  In addition, Stanley enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, going to camp with family and collecting Clydesdale Horse memorabilia.  He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

3 Daughters:  Kristi (Diante Wray) Sexton of Rock, MI; Amy (Kyle Giese) Englund of Rock, MI;Bonnie Englund of Rock, MI

3 Sisters:  Carrie Lampinen of Gladstone, MI; Dorothy (Donald) Syrjanen of Rock, MI; Louise (Tom) Sherbinow of Skandia, MI

3 Brothers:  Ronald (Mary Jane) Englund of Hartford, WI; Donald (Pat) Englund of Skandia, MI; Duane (Diana) Englund of McFarland, MI

Special Granddaughter:  Taylor

Loving Grandsons:  Brayden and Dylan

Also listed among the surviving family are many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 
 
In addition to his parents, Earl and Celia, Stanley was preceded in death by his brother in law, Ray Lampinen. 
 
The Englund family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00PM to 4:45PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Military rites, honoring Stanley’s service to his country, will be conducted at 4:45PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home, by the Rock American Legion Post #559.  Funeral services, celebrating the life of Stanley W. “Stosh” Englund, will follow military rites, at 5:00PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home, with Rev. Devon Barrix of the Faith Lutheran Church, in Rock, officiating.  Luncheon will follow at the Lions Club in Rock.  The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Englund family with arrangements.
