Olive Juanita (VanAcker) Lemke, age 86, former Delta County resident and currently residing near family in Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Monday morning, February 16, 2009 in Saginaw.

Olive was born August 1st, 1922 in Brampton, Michigan to Ray and Edith (Story) Sheffer, was raised and attended school in the Brampton area.

She married Julian VanAcher in Escanaba on November 14th, 1941 and to that union two sons were born, Richard and Clyde VanAcher.

In her earlier working years, Olive was employed as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital and she later clerked at F.W. Woolworth & Co. in Escanaba. After her husband, Julian, passed away in 1974, Olive met the love of her life, Harold Lemke, and they were married on April 30th, 1977. Harold preceded her in death. Olive is remembered for her strong faith and is a member of St. Anthony Church in Wells.
Olive Lempke’s survivors include:

1 Brother- Frank (Mary) Sheffer of Escanaba

Grandsons- Ronald VanAcher; Paul (Tammy) VanAcher; Ryan (Michelle) VanAcher

Granddaughters- Laura (Kevin) LaLuzerne; Dawn VanAcher; Brook VanAcher

along with many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Julian VanAcher and Harold Lempke, Olive was preceded in death by both her sons, Richard and Clyde VanAcher. She was also preceded by two sisters, Norma Lou Peterson and Ramona Fournier, and by a brother, Marvin Sheffer.

The family of Olive Lemke will receive friends on Monday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday at 5:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Church in Wells with Rev. Fr. Rick Courier officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the parish hall. Burial will be in the spring in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Escanaba. The Skradski-Boyce Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Lemke/ VanAcher family.
